In Loving Memory of Paul Ronayne

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of Paul Ronayne, our District Treasurer and a passionate advocate for trade unionism. Paul was a dedicated and principled figure in our movement, whose years of service to the National Education Union and its members on the Wirral, left an indelible mark.

Paul was more than a Treasurer—he was a trusted colleague, a tireless campaigner, and a true friend to many. His commitment to fairness, solidarity, and the rights of working people was unwavering. Whether he was supporting members through difficult times, contributing to committee work, or simply offering a listening ear, Paul’s presence was one of strength, compassion, and integrity.

His work behind the scenes was vital to the smooth running of our local union activities, and his voice was always one of reason and care in our meetings. Paul gave so much of himself to the cause, and his legacy will live on in the values he championed and the lives he touched.

Paul’s passing is a huge loss to our local trade union community. We will miss his wisdom, his humour, and his quiet determination. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and union colleagues during this difficult time.

We invite all who knew Paul to share their memories, tributes, and reflections in the comments below. Let us honour his life by remembering the difference he made and continuing the work he cared so deeply about.

  1. I feel deeply saddened by this news and robbed of his knowledge, expertise and passion for trade unionism that he was passing on to me but by bit at each encounter we had. Paul made me laugh lots and was a safe space for all who encountered him. He made Matty (my partner) feel welcomed into our NEU community by discussing union commonalities and be simply being the great guy that he was. Thanks for all you did to support us all as a union. Paul is sorely missed. Much love to his family and friends xxx

Paul, it’s really difficult to find the words to express how much I will miss you and although we didn’t live in each other’s pockets, I always knew you were at the end of the phone if I needed a listening ear or support
The 3 Amigos will ride on into the distance without you by our side, gone, but never, ever forgotten, Paul
Rest in perfect peace dear friend xx
Deepest condolences to Jack and all your family xx
