| I want to extend an invitation to our upcoming District General Meeting, which will also be the official launch of the local element of the National Education Union’s “Save Education” campaign in Wirral. This campaign comes at a critical moment for education. Government recommendations to the STRB (School Teachers Review Body), is that Teachers will once again be offered a below‑inflation, unfunded pay rise. This means a real terms pay cut for teachers and any pay increase must be paid for from existing school budgets. With school funding already stretched to breaking point, unfunded awards translate directly into cuts to staffing, support services, and classroom provision. Alongside this, the national threat to remove the protected 1265 directed hours risks opening the door to unlimited working hours and further intensification of workload across the profession. Our District General Meeting will outline what this means for us locally, and how we organise together to defend education. You should also consider joining our online briefing on the 3rd Feb. It is important at least one member from each school attend If you are a rep you should be attending our online briefing and reps training. If you have not confirmed attendance or sent apologies please use the link below. |
